As in the rest of Texas, Friday night high school football is a widespread obsession with fans of all ages. Arlington High School owns the city’s only state football championship, having won it in’51 under head coach Mayfield Workman. Lamar High School nearly pulled off the same feat in’90, but had to settle for a state runner-up title.

In recent years, Bowie High School, Martin High School and Mansfield Summit High School (a Mansfield ISD school located within Arlington) have enjoyed some success. The University of Texas at Arlington used to field a football team, but the program was canceled in’85 due to funding issues and waning attendance. The football vacancy at the campus stadium, Maverick Stadium, was quickly filled by Arlington High and subsequently Bowie High School. Cravens Field, on the campus of Lamar, and Wilemon Field, on the campus of Sam Houston, are home to the other four teams in the city. Both have enjoyed a history of close and dramatic games.

Lamar High School alumnus Jeremy Wariner won two gold medals in the 2004 Athens Olympics, and the 2005 world championship in the 400 meters in Rome. UTA also produced Doug Russell, who won two gold medals in swimming at the Mexico City Olympics in’68 and for whom a park on campus is named.

Champion bodybuilder (Mr. Olympia’98-2005) and former Arlington police officer, Ronnie Coleman resides in Arlington. Houston Comets Guard Erin Grant grew up in Arlington and attended Mansfield high school where she became the first high school basketball player to win four state championships. She currently holds the Big 12 assist record. Beijing Hotels in the Midst of the Olympic Green

China is one of the world’s emerging superpowers and has lately made her presence felt in the international arena as she was chosen to host the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics. Held every four years, the Olympics is participated in by about 120 countries, with groups battling it out in several sports, from swimming to diving, from track-and-field to javelin throwing, from basketball to soccer, you name it.

Beijing did not waste time in finding the venues after being chosen to host the 2008 Summer Olympics. The city and the national government worked hand-in-hand to gather the best team of engineers, architects and landscape designers to jumpstart this most important project because they knew that big investments will be pouring in. In addition to this, more Beijing hotels were built in anticipation of the visitor surge during the games.

The government chose an area that would accommodate various stadiums and complexes. This would increase productivity of the players and at the same time reduce travel time from one venue to another. The Olympic Green, as it is called, is located at the north end of the central axis of Beijing. Thirty-one sporting venues can be seen at the site.

The Olympic Green is accessible to most of the hotels in Beijing since it is well within the city’s cultural and business districts, where thousands of tourists and businessmen flock to. Many significant sporting venues are located within the green. The biggest of these is the Beijing National Stadium. The building’s design was inspired by Chinese ceramics, which depicted intricacy and beauty rolled into one. Also called the ‘Bird’s Nest,’ it hosted 91,000 spectators during the opening and closing ceremonies, as well as in the football and athletics finals.

Another unique structure is the Beijing National Aquatics Center, better known as the ‘Water Cube.’ Its design is based on the structure of soap bubbles, which are air-filled pockets of translucent plastic. At night, the structure illuminates with colors which change from time to time. This was where swimming, diving and synchronized swimming competitions were held.

The Beijing National Indoor Stadium, dubbed ‘The Fan’ due to its design similar to a traditional Chinese holding fan, hosted Artistic Gymnastics, Handball events and Tramp lining. The Convention Center, a 270,000 square-meter structure, used for Fencing and the Modern Pentathlon, can also be found within the Green. It was also the International Broadcast Center where the press covered the entire games.

The Beijing Olympic Village was the temporary residence of the athletes. Made up of twenty-two six-storey buildings and twenty nine-storey buildings, it resembles some of the hotels in Beijing.

Beijing hotels were having good occupancy rates during the games. The city and the country were the stars of the show. Indeed, China and its people were in the limelight. People can finally say that the Sleeping Dragon has finally awakened!

At this point you are probably quite certain that Cuba is the destination that you want to visit for your next holiday but maybe need some help on how to make a booking . This might seem a little bit trivial but it is definitely not the case when it comes to organizing holidays to Cuba.

The truth is that this Caribbean island is becoming ever more popular every year and this creates a problem for some tour operators . Cuba is definitely not a last minute destination , especially if you are travelling in the high season.

High season in Cuba , comprises Easter period and the summer months of July and August, particularly popular for people travelling with kids . November, December, January, February and March are awfully trendy months especially among the European tourists looking for the Tropic to escape from the cloudy skies and the cold weather .

Pretty frequently I get people calling asking me to organise a holiday for them in these particular months , and every so often the phone call comes to close to the departure date . It is absolutely frustrating for me and ultimately the client. For one simple thing , I can not shine recommending a package holiday for the fact that the most attractive areas and best hotels are completely sold out , leaving me with the only answer I can give . “I am truthfully sorry but at this point there are no hotels available in the areas that you are attracted to”

If you are looking to stay in big resorts then there is not much to be concerned about. The problem arises when customers want to combine in a package locations like Havana, Viales Valley, Las Terrazas, Cienfuegos, Trinidad and or Santiago de Cuba. locations like these with the exception of Havana are very limited when it comes to accommodation facilities .

If what you want is to put together a tailor made Cuba holiday in a demanded season my suggestion to you is to start with the arrangements at least 4 months prior to departure in order to secure not only the rooms in your preferred hotels but also the best deal from the carriers . If you however did not find this article before and are thinking about a multi centre holiday to Cuba, there is always a possibility to find something available but is not going to be the kind of holiday that we wish for you.

In the case of low season months is trouble-free to find availabilities and good deals in terms of fares and it really does not matter much when you call. Even so we feel very confident to put together the kind of itinerary that will fulfil your holidays

I truly hope this article helps you have a better understanding of how to book your holidays to Cuba and sincerely wish you a fantastic time in Cuba.
