Antigua Guatemala So Much More Than Just A

Traveling in Antigua Guatemala is something you have to do in Guatemala. It has so many great things and places to offer. There are tons of great restaurants, lots of fun bars, hotels that go from $5 a night to 5 star hotels.

I love its buildings and streets because they are filled with history. If you take the time so meet some of the grandpas and grandmas of the place they will tell you all kind of interesting facts about the city. But there are also great things to do outside of it. For example there is the earth lodge. It is a place where you can go camping in a safe environment or you can rent a cabin in the middle of the forest with the most amazing views of the nearby towns. You can also go to the only vineyard of Central America: Chateau deFay. Here you can also have lunch and go for a tour in the middle of the vineyards.

For some exciting tours how about Finca Philadelphia that offers canopy and mule tours around the forest and is located only 5 minutes away from Antigua.

If you want to drive for 10 more minutes you can visit a 5 star hotel & Golf Resort located 20 minutes outside of Antigua Guatemala. It has the Agua Volcano in one side and the active Fuego Volcano at a safe distance. It is called La Reunion Antigua Golf Resort & Residences. This luxurious hotel has 26 rooms with a lovely kids club. We were there for a weekend and loved it. We had some time to explore the place and enjoy the delicious meals in their beautiful restaurant (El Mirador Restaurant where they specialize in meat and pasta but they also offer some seafood dishes.

I’ve visited all of them and I love them and I can say that they are all great. So if you want to do something different around Antigua these are my recommendations.

Costa Rica is a county with a crazy amount of miles of coastlines but the Gulf of Papagayo has some of the most popular beaches of the country. I had heard so much about this area and I was dying to visit it. Finally I got the opportunity to visit it. The specific area of it that I visited is called Playa del Coco. We decided to visit this place but didn’t worry about making a reservation anywhere.

Finally I got the opportunity to visit it. The specific area of it that I visited is called Playa del Coco. We decided to visit this place but didn’t worry about making a reservation anywhere. So searching for a hotel was quite an adventure. Finally we found a hotel that looked beautiful and had space for us. The name of the hotel was Casa Vista Azul. It is located just 25 minutes away from the Liberia International Airport and within walking distance of Coco beach.

Let me give you a short description of the hotel:

First it’s important to say that it is on a hill side and overlooks the Gulf of Papagayo. The hotel offers 7 regular rooms, one with twin bed, the others have queen size beds. There are also 2 one-bedroom apartments with full kitchens. All of the rooms have air conditioning, ceiling fans, safe-deposit boxes, a beautiful decoration and magnificent ocean views. Some other services that this great hillside hotel offers are: a swimming pool and maid service.

I had a great time in the hotel, the staff is very friendly and the place is great. The next morning I woke up by the howls of howler monkeys and as soon as I opened the curtains I could enjoy the most amazing views.

Back to Playa del Coco, this is a beautiful tranquil beach perfect for relaxing and romantic walks. The area has some great restaurants and stores. This beach is every traveler’s dream. I would highly recommend visiting this popular region of Costa Rica to anyone, from families to honeymooners. We all had a blast when we visited it!

CST – Sustainability Certification Programs For Hotels And Tour Operators Of Costa Rica

The Costa Rica Tourism Institute (ICT) has developed a Sustainability Certification Program (CST) and that encourages tour operators and hotels to stick on environmental and social regulations. If they do that they might gain the highest level of sustainability certification awarded by the government. That is why Latin America’s leader in sustainable tourism with the largest number of government certified eco-tourism businesses is Costa Rica.

It’s not just only about the turnover rates and employment numbers but also about how much responsibility is taken by the company as they manage natural, cultural and social resources. The system focuses in encouraging business to operate and use natural resources in a sustainable way. It also encourages the hale and hearty development of the surrounding communities.

The system focuses in encouraging business to operate and use natural resources in a sustainable way. All organizations are also encouraged to take a pro-active stance on how to minimize the destruction of natural, social and cultural resources. All of these factors together contribute to Costa Rica’s rich biodiversity and healthy society. At the same time it gives the country it amazing qualities.

The rating system follows these important parameters:

1. Physical-Biological Parameters: This measures the interaction between the company and its surrounding habitat. This includes the presence of gardens and natural areas and the protection of the flora and fauna and in what measure.

2. Hotel Facilities: This factor evaluates by how are the management policies, the operation systems within the company, its water and energy use, employee training and standard of service.

3. Customers: Evaluates the interaction of the company with its clients in terms of how much it lets them be active contributors to the company’s policies of sustainability.

4. Socio-Economic Environment: This one valuates the interaction of the company with local communities.

Plus, all establishments are encouraged to adopt eco-friendly programs for long term improvement:

1. Recycling programs

2. Proper disposal and treatment of waste

3. Implementation of water and energy saving systems

4. Conservation of forests and surrounding green areas

5. Contribution to reforestation

6. To work with neighboring communities to improve their way of life CST-Ranking-System

The rating system is on a scale of 0 to 5. A level 5 is a establishment that is working at the highest level of sustainability. If a business scores a 1, that means that they have taken the first step towards sustainability but need a lot more work and will be re-evaluated later for progress.

How does all of this affect you, the consumer?

They encourage you to take a stance and choose a sustainable hotel or tour operator for your next visit to Costa Rica, this at the same time will encourage and help more businesses to join in. That is why the price difference is negligible between businesses that are certified and ones that are not.

With the CST program many Costa Rican companies are now working hard and even competing to make a significant difference by preserving the natural environment and improving the local community’s life quality.

The National Accreditation Commission is comprised of the Costa Rica Tourism Institute, the Ministry of the Environment and Energy, the National Institute of Biodiversity, the National Tourism Chamber, the University of Costa Rica, the Central American Institute of Business Administration, National Tourism Chamber, the Earth Council and the International Union for Conservation of Nature.
