I Saw The One That Got Away In Hawaii

Planning a deep sea fishing tour? Hawaii, residing in the central Pacific, is where fishermen from all over the world settle in to convenient beach rentals and charter boats out of ports such as Waikiki and Kailua Kona to go after sailfish, mahi mahi, Pacific dolphin and more.

Fully fitted Hawaii bed and breakfasts with fully equipped kitchens allow you the occasion to prepare your prize as you like it at the end of the day unless you prefer to have it preserved and mounted for display. The bottom line is if you are after the big fish, the Aloha State is the destination to find them.

For individuals on a budget, the better choice is to utilize a charter boat firm that gives collective charters. You and up to five additional anglers split the fee of the boat, which saves on individual expenditures considerably. One of the top charter boat companies we know of on the island of Oahu is the Maggie Joe Sport Fishing Company, which has been offering shared fishing charters and boat excursions for sixty years. You will not need to bring bait, ice or tackle as this is all included in their price but you will want to bring your own food and drink for the day.

Oahu is of course not the only island in Hawaii. Kauai, the Garden Isle, is not only habitat to some of the most spectacular tropical landscape in the state and has been the set of many films and TV shows, including the pilot episode of Gilligan’s Island, but also has much more than fishing. Hiking, helicopter tours, inner tubing and surfing are all prevalent pastimes on what many consider Hawaii’s most lovely island. In addition to economical deep sea fishing charters out of Kapaa there is also a great many opportunities for freshwater fly fishermen as well. In the midst of nine rivers and over 160 small lakes and reservoirs, fly fishermen will find numerous different kinds at the end of their lines.

The port town of Lahaina on Maui was a whaling center in the 19th Century, but is now home to whale-watching cruises as well as boat tours and fishing excursions. Take a cruise on the Start Me Up or one of the other charter boats in town during the winter months and chances are good that you will spot amorous humpback whales as they do what mammals typically do during the breeding season. Lahaina also has beautiful beach rental accommodations available throughout the year.

Finally, there’s the Big Island. The rich deep sea fishing grounds are close in so you won’t have to go further than four miles off the coast prior to encountering 500-lb. sailfish and yellowfin. Kailua-Kona is the home town port of the Sea Wife, a 38-footer with space for eighteen people, making it the largest such boat in the state. Beyond the private resorts, beach rentals are reasonably priced.

Sweeping Sand On The Isle Of Palms

July 9, 2010 by James Harden · Leave a Comment

There have been hard core sailors, among them the late actor Humphrey Bogart, who firmly believed that wind and sail is the only proper way to push a boat. But don’t take their word for it, check out the rentals on sailing boats and charters available on South Carolina’s scenic Isle of Palms, just an hour south of Myrtle Beach and a few minutes from historic Charleston. Whether you are looking to just lay on the beach or want a genuine sailing or deep sea fishing adventure, you will find it on the Isle of Palms.

One of the Barrier Islands that separates the Charleston metro area from the Atlantic Ocean, the Isle of Palms is known not only for its beaches and beach rentals, many of which are bargain priced during the off season, it is residence to numerous historic shipwrecks. All through the American Civil War, no fewer than six blockade runners met their demise in the waters off the coast of the Isle of Palms. During the late nineteenth Century, it became a favorite holiday spot among the people of Charleston. For many years however, the only way to connect with the island was by ferry. In 1912, a trolley line was made from Charleston, but it was another quarter century before automobiles could reach the island.

Curiously, the island’s population boom was not about resorts for the very rich but low cost housing for veterans returning from World War II. In the late 1940s, a native developer acquired a lot of the land on the island in order to meet this need. Some of these properties are now tourist b and b rentals.

Those who have sailing vessels will find a full service marina at the Wild Dunes Resort, located on the island’s northern end. The resort also includes lodging as well as a golf course and tennis courts. Of course, the surfing is fine, and if you aren’t inclined to charter a deep sea fishing boat, you can always go shrimping or crabbing for your supper. And it’s all safe and healthy as the Isle of Palms has been awarded “Blue Wave Certification” for six years running for environmental cleanliness and stewardship.

There are also fascinating cultural experiences to be had and many educational experiences. The Isle of Palms and other islands in the area were long home to the Gullahs, the earliest of African American communities. The Gullahs long preserved much of the language and culture of their West African homeland and you can experience some of it at the Gullah Cuisine Lowcountry Restaurant in nearby Mount Pleasant. Fans of the late Alfred Hitchcock and the TV series Murder She Wrote, who come to the area on the second weekend of February, should take in the Weekend of Mystery, where visitors to Kiawah Island can participate in a murder mystery while staying at the Kiaway Island Resort.

This is all just a small sample of what awaits you on the Isle of Palms.

Benefits Of Hotel Online Booking

June 11, 2010 by Vincent Arthur Lee · Leave a Comment
Filed under: Hotels

Hotel online booking is quickly gaining in popularity as the Internet provides a convenient platform for holidaymakers and business travelers to source for their ideal hotel that will be their sanctuary during their overseas stay.

They provide a convenient and efficient solution for you to make informed decisions about which hotel to book based on your specific preferences and budget, even if you are looking for a hotel at the last minute. There are many benefits of booking hotels online, and I shall examine the different booking channels that reap these benefits.

Dawn of the Internet – Power to the online consumer

In the past, researching about hotels was a tedious process that relied almost exclusively on traditional channels including broadcast media like television and printed media in the form of brochures and pamphlets. The potential guest also has to telephone or write to the hotel or visit a physical travel agent to find out more about room availability and room rates.

In the past, travelers had to go through hotels or travel agents to make a hotel booking via phone or writing. There was limited information about the room rates, services and facilities available to the traveler except through printed brochures or newspaper advertisements, which can be easily overlooked. Furthermore, some time was needed to get a response from the hotels and travel agents, allowing for less room for the traveler to make a quick decision about his booking or change it.

However, the Internet has opened many platforms for the free exchange of ideas and information, including both factual information about the hotels as well as feedback from past guests on forums and hotel review websites such as TripAdvisor.com. Thus, the online consumer has been empowered to make informed decisions about hotel bookings. He can also place his booking directly on online reservation websites without much hassle, thus freeing more time to prepare for his trip. He can even stand to enjoy cost savings by finding out the best deals through websites that specialize in searching for the best deals for each hotel.

Online consumer benefits from online travel agents’ information sharing

The sharing of hotel information between the hotels and the online travel agents makes this information readily available to the online consumer on the latter’s websites. These websites are a one-stop shop for these consumers as they can browse different hotels’ room rates, facilities, amenities and services, compare prices and make their bookings at a single website, thus saving lots of time and effort. Hence, all parties stand to gain as the hotels gain publicity and bookings, the online travel agents receive commission payments for bookings done through their website, and the online consumer has a large database of hotel information at his fingertips.

This in effect results in a comprehensive compilation of detailed information about different hotels that travelers can easily access when they visit these websites. This also generates increased competition among the online travel agents which might negotiate with the hotels for special rates to attract customers to book their hotels through their site and not others.

Unique booking experience through hotels’ own booking websites

An increasing number of hotel chains, especially the larger ones, are allowing guests to book directly on their websites which have attached booking engines, thus marketing their rooms, facilities and services directly to the consumer. There is also the opportunity for the hotel to incorporate its corporate identity and style into the design of its website to create a stronger online presence, impress new guests and reinforce loyalty, which cannot be done if they are just one of many hotels featured on an online travel agents’ website.

As opposed to the barrage of information about various hotels that is available on online travel agents’ websites, hotels’ own booking websites with attached booking engines allow for much more personalized and targeted marketing to its guests.

The widespread proliferation of hotel online booking websites can present a tough choice if you are looking for a starting point to make your online bookings. There are many such websites out there but you should look for one that provides reliable and accurate information, is easy to use and has a secure online payment system, key attributes that not all booking websites may possess.

Tips For Finding Cheap Hotels

Vacationing for many people comes once a year and it never seems to last long enough. Some of the times though if you know how to find cheap hotels you can discover that you could stretch your limited budget out enough to allow you to go on two vacations or possibly more. Here is some of the ways that you can use to help you stretch out that dollar to get a second vacation squeezed in.

Prior to going on your trip you will want to make sure that you have a set price limit for your nightly room rate. By having that in place you will find that you will have a more enjoyable time and know that you can still afford to do the other things that you want to do while your on your trip.

One method is to consider what time your going to be going on your trip. That can help you determine the cost of the room and it could also help you figure out how crowded the area is going to be when you are in that area.

Another way is to look at all the available places in the area your traveling to. Doing this could allow you to find some of the smaller ones that are not well known, but have great features and wonderful pricing.

Something else that you can do is to call the places that you are considering staying in. By doing this you could find that they are running a special or other thing that can help you save money. Some of these deals though are going to be lower than what you can find on the internet so you could save money doing that to.

Something else to consider doing will be staying further away from the attraction that you want to see. The distance to the attractions can be a factor in the price as well. For example if you are traveling to the ocean the hotels that have beach front will cost more than ones that are a couple of streets inland. So if you do not mind driving or walking some you could find that the one inside of the town might be the better choice.

Taking a trip can be a multitude of issues. One of the issues is going to be finding out where you want to go to, but then your going to have the issue of finding cheap hotels. Once you know some of the methods that you can find a low cost place that can allow you to have a great trip.

Love Is In The Air

There is something dreamy about the Caribbean that makes for an ideal romantic vacation. Whether it’s the tropical conditions, white sands, azure waters and swaying palms, it seems to bring out the romance in the majority people. Choosing a suitable accommodation in paradise is a close second to environment in producing that ideal escape. There are enough Playa del Carmen hotels to pick from, but when you are thinking about romance, the inventory is narrowed.

Our first criteria when selecting a romantic hotel is size. Yes, in this case, size matters, and at least for our taste, the smaller hotels get the nod. However, there are still a wide variety of options and a few more details to keep in mind. Smaller could mean a cabana on the beach with no amenities to speak of and maybe not even power 24 hours a day. That kind of romance may be for some, but for our idea of romance, we’ll need a few more amenities and basic conveniences.

Location is another critical factor, beach front, central or off the beaten path. All of those options provide benefits depending on what you are after. Beachfront is of course always nice with access to the beach and the Caribbean right out your front door. Being central, if the beach is near, is also a convenient option for dining and shopping and a retreat from the sand and wind; it may also mean having some things a beach front option is lacking, like a pool. Many beachfront properties in Playa del Carmen do not have pools!

The decor and on-site services are also a significant consideration. When you walk into your room, it’s nice to have an air of relaxation and romance. A comfortable king size bed and cozy linens with a spacious bathroom are big pluses. A place to lounge with a sofa and table is also a fine touch. A TV and telephone is also luxurious but certainly not a deal breaker if romancing is in the air. On-site spa services or at least close locations are a requirement if you are looking to spoil that special someone.

With these strategic elements in mind, our list of hotels is now starting to come into focus. The top four small hotels on our list for a romantic getaway in Playa del Carmen are Mosquito Blue, Playa Palms, Mahekal Beach Resort and Mosquito Beach Hotel. All of the above mentioned hotels have a mixture of most if not all of the features that encompass a spectacular romantic getaway.

Mosquito Blue features a central setting with a magnificent restaurant, spa services and two pools. Mosquito Beach is a fashionable hotel right on the beach with a scrumptious restaurant and private beach club. Playa Palms is a beachfront retreat with a river like pool and in-room iPod docs and flat panel TV’s. At Mahekal Beach resort, you won’t locate phones or TV’s but you are able to get internet access in a couple of areas on the property, and with two pools, this is a very distinctive cabana style resort on one of the finest beaches in Playa del Carmen.

For our romantic weekend, we chose Mosquito Blue. Mosquito Blue is very centrally located at the corner of 12th and 5th Avenue right off the walking mall. A lovely choice with Mediterranean flavored rooms offering ample space and bedding with some very nice romantic touches like the 4 post bed. The service was amazing and the staff was very helpful and really catered to our every need. The small “Zen Spa” on site at the hotel was a relaxing and soothing option for a variety of services. The restaurant was delicious international cuisine and as guests, we also got a 30% discount! The other bonus was the free breakfast included at the sister hotel Mosquito Beach, a full gourmet breakfast menu that also came with full access to the private beach club. Mosquito Beach is just a short stroll down the mall from Mosquito Blue.

What Is Siesta-Key Like At Night?

If you’re looking for an exciting and rich night out, Siesta Key will surely deliver that for you. The Key offers numerous options for the perfect night out with your family or a few friends. For many, it’s the ideal spot to just sit back and relax after a long day in the sun. Everyone can enjoy a variety of live music and events that most hot spots offer throughout the year, letting you enjoy your vacation without reserve.

Live music is just one of the daily pleasures for those visiting the Key. Several local pubs are very well known for hosting bikini contests during the summer time, and maybe you just picked the right time to visit. Another popular feature of most local shops and bars is that they’re all styled and decorated to support the island theme. Luckily most of the popular points of interest are located just steps away from some of the best Siesta-Key hotels.

You’ll find that Siesta-Key Village is one of the most popular places to go after the sun sets. In fact, many Sarasota residents love to spend their nights on Siesta-Key enjoying all the festivities. One of the most visited spots is called the “Daiquiri Deck” and as the name implies, it offers an amazing selection of daiquiris.

During the year, and mostly between the spring and summer time, the Daiquiri Deck is home to some of the best parties and even some bikini contests. Volleyball tournaments are also very popular, along with a few block parties. Unlike most other nearby attractions, the Daiquiri Deck is open for extended hours making it the party-goers go-to spot.

One thing that most people say about Siesta-Key’s night life is how relaxed it is. It makes it enjoyable for everyone, mostly because it’s not too intense. It may certainly be a “quieter” party, but it’s sure to make anyone feel great and enjoy all the island has to offer.

In the instance that Siesta-Key doesn’t meet your wild night life standards, you can quickly and easily take a drive across the Stickney Point Bridge into the Sarasota area where you’ll find plenty more bars near Gulf Gate Dr. Many of these bars and pubs will appeal to the more rowdy party enthusiast and play louder music. Alternatively, a drive into Sarasota downtown will reveal even more resources, including a few upscale bars.

Bring Out Your Cowboy In Colorado

America’s Alps are commonly known to be the Colorado Rockies, and the skiing in winter compares pretty favorably with that in Switzerland and Austria. The Colorado Rockies are residence to numerous world renowned ski resorts and the state is dotted with historic mining towns from the 19th Century as well as some of the most spectacular scenery in North America. Colorado is a sizeable state with many miles separating each ski resort or vacation destination. Based upon the extent of your vacation time, you might want to consider this when selecting an area of Colorado to visit.

Southwestern Colorado is a magnificent place to visit with gorgeous mountain views and numerous outdoor activities in the winter and summer months alike. Durango in particular, near Purgatory Ski Resort, has excellent ski runs, snow mobile trails, cross country skiing trails and lodging with views of the spectacular San Juan Mountain Range. Purgatory Ski Resort itself has great dining options, but a trip into town for shopping and more great dining options are close by and transportation is easily accessible.

The town of Silverton is close to Durango, which you can get to via the Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad, which takes you through a winding picturesque mountain track. You can also take Hwy 550, which by car, is also a stunning drive. Silverton is an old mining town, packed with old west flavor including saloons with piano players, gun fights, horse back riding, hiking and old fashioned ice cream parlors. Mining is no longer in action in Silverton, but a few shops sell all the fools gold and mining accessories a person might ever hope for.

Mesa Verde National Park is close to Durango as well and contains wonderful cliff dwellings of Native Americans over 700 years old. See the hieroglyphs carved into walls, ancient artifacts, and many dwellings preserved. There are quite a few vacation lodges surrounding Mesa Verde. For information on vacation lodging, contact Mesa Verde National Park.

Four Corners National Monument is also in Southwestern Colorado, the only place in the U.S. where you can be in 4 states (Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico and Utah) at one time. Navajo Indians sell their turquoise and silver jewelry all throughout this area along with their handsome weaving. If you haven’t ever tried Navajo flat bread, you are in for a delight as it is all hand made fresh that day.

Heading northward along U.S. Highway 550 along the Uncompaghre River, you will encounter a number of scenic and historic towns including Telluride, Ouray and Ridgeway. You and your family might easily spend several weeks in this section of the Centennial State, and luckily, there is no shortage of Colorado vacation rentals all along the way, many of which are bed and breakfast houses in carefully restored Victorian-style properties, giving you a taste of what life might have been like during the prime of Colorado’s mining industry and the “Robber Baron” Era.

Southwestern Colorado is a wonderful place to visit for people who enjoy an active life style in the great outdoors. Camp sites are everywhere, RV campgrounds are throughout this great state, as well as fantastic Colorado condo rentals. Any area west of the Rocky Mountain Front Range in Colorado is spectacular scenery with all sorts of outdoor activities from river sports to hiking to simply sitting around a camp fire.

Unlock Your Key Potential

Key West is, as the name suggests, the westernmost island of the series of islands stretching back from Florida’s southern tip backwards into the Gulf of Mexico. Formerly known as Cayo Hueso, or Island of Bones, the island was first officially claimed for the U.S. by Commodore Matthew Perry in 1821. For a lot of years, it was a maritime base of operations against pirates of the Caribbean. Civilian settlement followed, and by the late 19th century, Key West was the most affluent district in Florida. For many years, the only way to reach Key West was by boat or train (a railroad was in place by 1912), but since the extension of U.S. Highway 1 in 1938, the community has been readily approachable by automobile.

Key West is saturated in history, particularly when it comes to American literature. Novelist Steven King makes his home in the Keys for a portion of the year, but he is only the most recent in a string of American literary figures who have been residents in this village, which most notably include late playwright Tennessee Williams and novelist Ernest Hemingway. The home once owned by Hemingway has been declared a U.S. National Historic Landmark and it is here that he later said he did some of his greatest writing. At the La Concha Hotel, Tennessee Williams penned the first draft of A Streetcar Named Desire, and he made his home in Key West for the last 34 years of his life. These days, a theater on the campus of neighboring Florida Keys Community College bears his name.

There are beautiful Florida Keys vacation rentals throughout the chain of islands to rent for short or long term. If you haven’t ever travelled to the Islamorada Florida Keys, this stretch of the Keys is a spectacular location. Islamorada is comprised of six islands that include Plantation Key, Windley Key, Upper Matecumbe Key, Lower Matecumbe Key and the offshore islands of Indian Key and Lignumvitae Key. This might be the only area on Earth where it is possible to hook a sailfish in the morning, and then sail into the backcountry in pursuit of bonefish, permit, tarpon, snook and redfish in just inches of water. There are also abundant Islamorada vacation rentals accessible that are charming and tranquil.

Old Town Key West offers a large range of outdoor activities that include water sports such as deep sea fishing, diving and snorkeling as well as a generous number of cultural events throughout the year. In fact, within an area four miles long and two miles wide, there are no fewer than 89 art galleries exhibiting a wealth of paintings and sculptures by local residents and include works by Cuban and Haitian artists in exile.

In addition, the Florida Keys are quarters to the areas only nonprofit self-regulating film multiplex, where film buffs can attend screenings of foreign and independent films that are shown in very few other venues. The Tropic Cinema is just one of the must see attractions in Key West. In addition to pictures, live theater is flourishing at venues such as the Marathon Community Theater, which presents musicals and other plays that recently included Guys and Dolls, Deathtrap and a full Broadway review.

Nature lovers may learn a great deal about the local flora and fauna at the Audubon House and Tropical Gardens, which includes a fine art gallery of its own. You can also experience some of the early history and archeology of the area by going to the Crane Point Museum Nature Center and Historic Site, which is situated on one of the oldest existing home sites on the island.

Key West is an island off the coast of Florida with a colorful history and flavorful present day atmosphere. There are many Florida Keys vacation rentals available on this magical island.

There’s A Northwest Wind A Blowing

In distinction to the Southeastern United States, which is geographically ancient, the Pacific Northwest is very new country, with rugged mountain ranges and active volcanoes as well as thousands of square miles of evergreen forests. It is also one of the most scenic regions of the U.S. Oregon’s Willamette Valley, which stretches north to south from the Columbia River to Ashland, was one of the first locations of this region to be developed by Euro-Americans, starting in the 1820s. By 1859, Oregon had been granted statehood and Portland was already a major port city.

Oregon is home to the oldest city in the region, Astoria, which was founded as a fur trading post by John Jacob Astor in 1811. Just a few miles south of Astoria is Fort Clatsop, a newly reconstructed replica of the fort built by the Lewis and Clark expedition in 1805. Although not a native of Oregon, the Shoshone Indian Sacajawea played an important part in the exploration of the state. Her role in guiding Lewis and Clark on their historic journey west is honored with a statue in Portland’s Washington Park.

Portland, once known as “Stumptown,” is as good a place as any to begin your Oregon vacation. The city is home to numerous historic hotels such as the Heathman, the Governor and the Benson. If you are touring the Pacific coast, great Oregon beach rentals can be found all along the coast. Communities such as Seaside, Bay City and others have beautiful vacation rentals for short or long term rental. Portland also has a world class public transportation system so getting around downtown Portland is easy.

While in Portland, bibliophiles should not pass up the opportunity to visit Powell’s City of Books on Burnside. While you are in the neighborhood, consider taking in a show at the nearby Artists’ Repertory Theater, which presents major works throughout the year. Sports fans will be delighted to know that PGE Park, home of the Portland Beavers, is also within easy walking distance of downtown just off I-405. Tickets to ballgames are a great bargain, starting at as little as $11. When you are in the mood for a romantic stroll with your significant other, be certain to take in the International Rose Test Garden in Washington Park and you’ll begin to appreciate why “Stumptown” is also known as the “Rose City.”

Oregon is a scenic state with plenty of fantastic outdoor activities such as backpacking, boating, camping, fishing and golfing. Along with all of these great outdoor activities, Oregon vacation rentals are situated all through the state displaying their diverse history and hospitality. The people at these great establishments are always happy to suggest the finest restaurants and tours.
